Psychotherapy

“Therapy is a gift. It is a chance to finally be heard, understood and supported.”

Bessel Van Der Kolk

What can you expect from psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a collaborative and supportive process that helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and make meaningful changes in your life. It provides a safe and confidential space to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, especially in areas where you may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain.

My job is to hold a safe, non-judgmental space for you to unpack whatever it is you would like to explore. Whether you're bringing in long-standing patterns, recent challenges, or simply a sense that something feels off, we will move at a pace that feels right for you.

Hi, I’m Niamh

I’m a Counsellor Psychotherapist, Nutritionist, Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor and Yoga Teacher. I hold a HDip and an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Dublin Business School, as well as a BSc in Nutritional Science from University College Cork.

I specialise in disordered eating and body image concerns, and have spent the past ten years supporting individuals struggling in these areas. My approach to psychotherapy is person-centred and integrative, meaning that I draw from a range of different modalities based on your unique needs and situation. I work collaboratively, holding the belief that therapy is a meeting of two experts: you are the expert of your own life, and I bring my clinical knowledge and experience to support the process. I aim to create a space that is grounded, respectful, and attuned to your pace and readiness. Whether you're seeking support around food and body image or coming to therapy with something else entirely, you're welcome here.

Common issues include…

  • Anxiety

  • Depression and low mood

  • Food and body image distress

  • Grief and bereavement

  • Autism and ADHD

  • Relationship issues

  • Stress and burnout

  • Life transitions

Where I’m based…

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I provide sessions in different settings. Whether you prefer the calm of an indoor space, the flow of a walk outdoors, or the convenience of meeting online, we can work together in a way that best supports your wellbeing and feels most supportive for you.

  • Walk-and-talk psychotherapy combines the benefits of traditional therapy with the restorative power of movement. Instead of sitting indoors, sessions take place outside while walking side by side, creating a relaxed and natural environment that can make it easier to open up, process emotions, and find clarity. This takes place in an outdoor location in the Carlow/South Kildare area.

  • Indoor psychotherapy is the classic model, where sessions happen face-to-face in a private room, allowing for focused conversation, reflection, and support. I work with clients in person at Connolly Counselling Centre on Monday afternoon and evening.

  • Online therapy offers the same care and connection as meeting in person, but with added flexibility. From the comfort of your own home, using video calls, you can share openly, reflect, and receive support in a way that fits your lifestyle.

How It Works

  • Step One

Reach out via email to explore your needs and see whether we’re a good fit. If you’d prefer, we can arrange a short phone call to talk things through - simply include this in your email.

  • Step Two

We’ll begin with an introductory session, giving you the chance to experience how psychotherapy works and see if it feels right for you. Afterward, you can decide whether you’d like to continue.

  • Step Three

If you choose to continue, I recommend starting with weekly sessions for six weeks, after which we can move into an open-ended arrangement. The pace and duration of therapy are unique to each individual.

“The best way out is always through.”
